Before Intravenous Anesthesia Sedation
- You may not have anything to eat or drink (including water) for eight (8) hours prior to the appointment.
- No smoking at least 12 hours before surgery. Ideally, cut down or stop smoking as soon as possible prior to the day of surgery.
- A responsible adult must accompany the patient to the office, remain in the office during the procedure, and drive the patient home.
- The patient should not drive a vehicle or operate any machinery for 24 hours following the anesthesia experience.
- Please wear loose fitting clothing. Wear a short sleeved shirt and low-heeled shoes. You may want to bring a sweater or sweatshirt for use in recovery.
- Contact lenses, jewelry, dentures and removable retainers must be removed at the time of surgery. Please remove all nose rings, tongue rings and any facial piercings prior to arrival for you appointment.
- Do not wear lipstick, excessive makeup, or nail polish on the day of surgery.
- If you have an illness such as a cold, sore throat, stomach or bowel upset, please notify the office.
- If you take routine oral medications, please check with Dr. Straka prior to your surgical date for instructions.
- You should arrive in the office 15 – 30 minutes prior to your scheduled surgery time.
- Your driver will need to park in the Green Parking Garage on the Riverside campus. It is located directly off Thomas Lane. There is a $2.00 flat fee and they accept both cash and credit/debit cards for your convenience. This is the easiest and quickest way to retrieve your car when you are going to pick up a patient under the effects of a general anesthesia.
